Hear From Past Participants

Real stories from people who chose to do something different, to travel with purpose, serve alongside others, and experience the kind of impact you can’t fully understand until you’re there. These are stories of connection, growth, and stepping into something bigger than yourself.

Volunteer travel changes lives, not only within the communities we serve, but in the people who say yes to going. It has a way of shifting perspectives, building confidence, and leaving a lasting impression long after the trip is over.

Maybe this is your moment to stop thinking about it and take the next step.

Hear Ligia reflect on her volunteer experience and the impact of encouraging and empowering young girls.

Clint shares a bit about himself and why you don’t need special skills to volunteer, just show up ready to make a difference.

This was much more than a trip. It was an incredible learning experience, and was truly life changing.

It was not just about what I could offer, but also the rich rewards that I could receive. Each day of the trip provided unique challenges wrapped up in huge rewards. I felt an intense sense of purpose and desire to use my knowledge and experiences. I just knew that I could do something to make a difference.

This trip helped me to view life differently, and to focus on what is important, this being community, connections to others, and being fully present. I walked away from this trip with a new sense of purpose, and came to see the value that each of us have when we give our time and love to others.

Loved serving at Robins Nest & Melody House! Jamaican culture & people were incredibly nice & welcoming!! Our leaders were amazing & I can’t wait until my kiddos are a little older & we can go as a family.

I had a really rewarding experience. The time we spent working with the kids brought me joy but has also inspired me to want to do more. The cultural days were well planned and were a great way with break up the physical and emotional work we were doing in the children's homes. In addition, the trainings provided in advance of the trip really prepared me to interact with the kids in appropriate ways that supported them. I'm already planning to go on another TAP trip.

I took my two teenagers on a trip. It was such a great experience for all of us. The week was filled with work projects and time to play as well. It was a perfect balance- to see the beautiful island and get motivated to go back to work. I enjoyed seeing the week through my kids eyes. I feel they grew more compassionate and have a new appreciation for how blessed we are. We have been home about a month. Both kids have asked several times when they can go back.

We highly recommend joining a TAP service trip! My 13 year old daughter and I found it to be rewarding and well balanced with work and recovery times. The kindness and passion of the our leaders and the Jamaican people permeate each experience. We do not travel very much but the planning that was put into our trip took away much of the fear of the unknown. This was something I wish I had been involved with years ago. I would have taken each of my kids individually! Although it may not be for all kids, my very reluctant teen ended the trip asking when she can go again! One month out and we are making plans to be a part of another team with TAP! Be open to the possibilities love brings to your life! Eternally grateful to all involved!

Tap leaders say that many people often ask “What do I have to offer?”. Whereas a question I had going into this trip was, “Am I good enough?”.

The simple answer to both of these questions is “Yes”. However, until you reach a certain point in the trip will you be able to realize it. Being 23 years old, I didn’t think I had much to give nor was I capable enough to be a part of this trip. However, I learned that “giving” or being “good enough” doesn’t have an age limit, but rather a curiosity and desire to learn about others is all that is truly needed.

I recommend everyone signs up for a trip. Not for the sake of self-satisfaction, but for the fact that these people really do need our help.

In a word full of constant desire for receiving, this trip emphasizes the importance of loving and giving. Two things we can all do more of.

I would strongly encourage other seniors to reach out and share their skills and abilities with others by participating in a trip and Traveling with a Purpose! It may not be the fountain of youth, but it is definitely an affirming and renewing experience that will remain in your heart forever.
