Current Needs

TAP has two larger ongoing projects that have been established from our partner’s needs. This is just a small glimpse of the projects we have been working on diligently both on-site with our partners and from afar.

We have many smaller, short-term projects that come up as well. You can stay up to date with those needs and how you can get involved on our Facebook page @ourtapmovement.

Project: Education

One of the goals at Traveling with a Purpose is to help prepare the girls to be self-sufficient young women who can support themselves financially once they leave. To do this, we need to better support their academics so each girl can reach her greatest potential.

Project: security

Ensuring the children's safety is of great importance at the home. Some of the children at the home have experienced trauma, so feeling safe and secure takes on a different meaning than for many of us. It is common on the island to fence in properties, not only for safety purposes, but also to prevent theft of the food grown on the property.

Completed Projects

Project: Solar

After several years of fundraising and partnership, Melody House is now fully powered by solar energy! With support from donors—including a generous $17,000 gift from Rotary District 5960—we completed the final phase of the solar project, installing additional panels and batteries to make the home energy independent. This means no more power outages during storms, reliable electricity for virtual learning, preserved food, and long-term cost savings that directly support the girls’ needs.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring lasting, sustainable power to Melody House!

Project: Sustainable food

The chicken coop was one of the first projects we focused on with Melody House’s sustainable food initiative. The chicken coop was completed in November of 2019. Not only do the chickens produce nearly 3,800 eggs and 100 chickens for consumption within the home (which offsets the household expense) but it offers nearly $400USD a month of supplemental income as well.

Thank you to those who donated and worked on this project- your efforts have helped create one more sustainable resource to help lower food costs at their home.
